Come join us for the Women’s Work Brigade on March 31st as we help build the Capaces Leadership Institute (CLI), which will serve as the training ground for current and future Latino leaders in the mid-Willamette Valley.

At noon, we will have a special ceremony to celebrate Cesar Chavez’s Birthday and the Willamette Valley Law Project’s 35th anniversary. The keynote speaker will be Oregon’s First Lady Cylvia Hayes.

About CLI:
CAPACES Leadership Institute (CLI) is a non-profit organization that started on July 13, 2011 and builds on three decades of community organizing led by Pineros y Campesinos Unidos del Noroeste (PCUN), Oregon’s farmworker union. CAPACES Leadership Institute is part of the “CAPACES” Network that includes nine different sister organizations such as: Salem-Keizer Coalition for Equality, Causa Oregon, PCUN, and Mano a Mano. The mission of the CLI is to prepare emerging leaders—youth and adults—in the Latino communities of the Mid-Willamette Valley to lead community-based non-profits and for public service.
About Willamette Valley Law Project:
Founded in 1977, WVLP has collaborated with and facilitated the development of community‑based organizations working in the Valley’s Latino communities to improve working and living conditions. From 1977 through 1985, the Law Project provided research and technical assistance to the Willamette Valley Immigration Project (WVIP) in its organizing, education and legal defense of immigrants and around immigration issues. WVLP’s Reforestation Workers Education Project helped workers identify their options to redress exploitative practices, leading to the founding of Pineros y Campesinos Unidos del Noroeste (PCUN) in 1985. Since 1989, the Law Project has supported the research and education aspects of PCUN’s organizing, public education, and special projects on issues ranging from promoting collective bargaining and eliminating discriminatory barriers from labor laws and their enforcement, to halting pesticide poisoning, developing new leadership, and combating anti‑immigrant sentiments.
About VOZ Hispana Causa Chavista (VHCC):
Voz Hispana Causa Chavista is the Mid-Willamette Valley’s voter and civic engagement community organization. Beyond Civic and voter engagement, VHCC works to promote the recognition of Latino Heroes and the leadership development of youth in its PCUNcitos program.
